The Results Are In: What Clients are Saying

Recently an organization that I partnered with offered my clients a voluntary opportunity to give feedback on the nature of our therapeutic relationship.  This is really important information for me as a professional, since the nature and strength of my relationship with my clients is the most important factor in the effectiveness of treatment (read more about that HERE).  So what do my clients say about our relationship?

A group of my clients clients responded to the following survey.  They scored each of the 5 questions on a scale of 1-4 (Never, Sometimes, Often, Always).

1.      I feel understood by my therapist.

2.      I feel comfortable opening up to my therapist.

3.      I feel a sense of mutual respect between me and my therapist.

4.      I can trust my therapist.

5.      We agree about what is the most important for me to work on.

A score of 5 would be a very poor relationship, while a score of 20 would be a really strong one- one where clients always feel supported and safe.

So how did my clients score me? 88% of them gave me a score of 20.  The other 12% scored me at either 18 or 19.  If you ask me, that’s pretty dang good! I’m proud and honored that my clients feel respected, safe, and understood.  This is the foundation of healing, and I work intently to offer my clients the best therapy experience that I can.

Client feedback is instrumental to the therapy process.  Not only does it allow for more honest and constructive communication in session, but it also gives me space for learning and growing as a professional.  In my opinion, a good therapist is one that is always looking for opportunities to improve their craft and so I welcome client feedback to help me also learn and grow.
