Why Self-Care?

I just published my first workbook- 100 Days of Self-Care: A Workbook for the Most Important Person in your Life and I am so excited to share it with you!

So why did I think this was so important to share with you? Because cultivating a mindset of self-care has changed my life.  And because clinical research indicates that when we engage in behaviors that support our overall health and well-being that we- not surprisingly- feel better.  It seems like common sense.

But for a lot of people, me included, this has been an area of struggle.  “People-pleasers” around the world lament that we give and give to everyone else and then wonder why we are so tired and irritated all the time.  We make sure everyone else is taken care of, happy, and thriving before we check in with ourselves.  Our motivation for change is to please others, not necessarily to live in closer alignment with our own authenticity.

These patterns of behavior generally lead to burn-out, irritability, resentment and anger, which spiral into substance dependence, relationship strain, and mental illness.

Making our own self-care a priority is the best antidote to the damaging effects of people-pleasing behaviors.  Shifting your perspective to focus on self-care can empower you.  It can help you show up more authentically in the world and have a bigger impact.  When we are feeling fulfilled, we can give to others more freely and without resentment.

It’s time to stop waiting for the world to fill your cup and start filling your own.

Don’t know where to start? I’ve got you! 100 Days of Self-Care: A Workbook for the Most Important Person in your Life is now available for purchase on Amazon!
