The Eclectic Therapist

Since the start of psychology as a science, therapists and researchers have often divided themselves up into camps, each one extolling the virtues of their own treatment philosophy over others.  And this continues today, with new therapy methods being researched and developed all the time.  While many therapists become experts in one specific style, others- like me- develop proficiency in several styles.  We often call these therapists “eclectic”.    (Definition: deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.)

To me, being an eclectic therapist is the result of my passion for learning, my ability to make connections, and the years of clinical experience I have in the field.  Throughout my career, I’ve received in-depth training and practice in

  • Cognitive Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Trauma Focused CBT

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS),

  • Comprehensive Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS),

  • Somatic Therapy

  • Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Gottman Couples Therapy

  • Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration (PHRI)

….and there’s probably some others in there too.

And I suppose it says something about me that I find each of these approaches to be valid and helpful, and so I pull concepts, practices, and exercises from all of them in my day-to-day work with clients.

What does this mean for you, my potential client? It means that I come into session with a large selection of tools, and the ability and confidence to use them correctly.  This helps you find the methods of exploration, understanding, and healing that work best for you.  I have found that clients resonate differently with different styles and my depth of knowledge and practice helps me create a tailor-made therapy experience that cultivates your growth.
